AUCTEQ Biosystems, a startup based in Mannheim, won a prize money of EUR 50,000 from the Headstart Award 2019 organized by the EIT Health. The prize money was given to a selected few healthcare startups from the DACH region at the EIT Health SHIP - Ship for Health Innovation Pitches that took place on June 28, 2019 in Heidelberg.

Around 30 healthcare startups presented their innovations in healthcare to a selected expert jury in front of more than 100 guests on board the "Königin Silvia" during a leisurely boat trip. Each startup had three minutes to convince the jury of their ideas, and AUCTEQ Biosystems was one of the startups chosen for the award.

AUCTEQ Biosystems is developing an expandable disposable bioreactor to increase the efficiency of biopharmaceutical manufacturing processes by reducing contamination risks, work capacity and disposal costs. In biopharmaceutical processes, drug-producing cells are cultured in bioreactors of up to 10,000 liters. To start such a bioreactor requires a certain volume of cell culture. The necessary manual transfer steps involve a high risk of contamination, require high working capacities and produce a lot of plastic waste. The AUCTEQ bioreactors reduce all manual transfer steps to a single step. Overall, at least 30% of the current process costs can be saved.

Founded in 2018 by Valentin Kramer at the Hochschule Mannheim, the aim of AUCTEQ Biosystems is to offer bioreactors that combine the safety of the cells with user-friendliness and cost-efficiency to create a modern and sustainable cell culture process, effectively solving the problem of outdated and inefficient procedures and tools.

AUCTEQ Biosystems has participated in the Q-Summit and they have received consulting from the MAN 633 Entrepreneurial Spirit courses.
