Mannheim Startup is co-initiator of EU-hackathon #EUvsVirus The Hackathon Company

The Mannheim-based startup The Hackathon Company is co-initiator and national curator of the first pan-European Hackathon #EUvsVirus. This online-event is organized by the European Commission and will take place from the 24th to the 26th April 2020. Expected are around 60.000 participants.

The concept of a federal hackathon was developed by The Hackathon Company already in 2019, so that it is available to be used in the covid-crises. The Hackathon Company runs the fully automatized infrastructure for the #EUvsVirus hackathon. Besides - in its role as curator - it is responsible for the implementation of a corresponding ecosystem.

The #EUvsVirus hackathon was initiated by the European Commission to look for innovative solutions for solving the corona crises. Therefor the online-event is about more than just raising a few ideas. Instead the goal is to scale the successful national hackathons on an EU-level. The event will bring together the smartest brains, entrepreneurs, digital minds, start-ups, NGOs, private and public institutions all over Europe.

Although the startup is in a difficult financial situation itself its team supports the EU-hackathon on a volunteer basis. “The current situation requires rapid and agile concepts and models. That is exactly what the #EUvsVirus hackathon is all about.” explained Oliver Brümmer, founder and CEO of The Hackathon Company, the teams motivation for taking part. “We are really proud of having the chance to take part as a co-initiator and national curator for the biggest hackathon in Europe. For our team this is a huge step. Not only for our self-development but also for the future of our continent.”
