International Office

International Office

Step by Step’ is a project of the University of Mannheim’s International Office and is specifically geared towards international degree-seeking students. Whether you are still figuring out how to get your foot in the door of the German economy or are already headed towards the founding phase of your own startup – we are happy to advise and support you in all questions surrounding your (self-) organization.

Take your pick of the following Steps and learn more about what’s relevant to you:

Intercultural Training – Germany in daily life and @work

In this one day training, you will learn about cultural differences in the workplace, will talk about the concept of culture show and will acquire a better understanding of the society you are working in.

Vocational German Language Courses

We offer German language courses at the levels A1.2-B1.2 according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages. The courses are focused on German business language and incorporate the use of corresponding course books. As a participant, you will have the opportunity to take part in company visits within the Mannheim region allowing you to find out how established companies in the area function.

Information Sessions with the Employment Agency

At our information sessions held in cooperation with the Employment Agency, we will get you acquainted with the basics of German residence and working permits for international students and graduates. Furthermore, we will talk about the formal aspects of a job application in Germany (in case you need a stable income while you develop your ideas). To deepen your expertise in the formalities of German applications, you will then have the chance to participate in a two-day Intensive Application Training and/or an Individual Application Coaching with experts from the International Office and the Employment Agency.

International AlumniNight

Once a semester, we invite international graduates of the University of Mannheim to share their stories with current students. This event will help you build a strong network, be inspired by success stories and learn from your peers.

The ‘Step by Step’-Project is funded by the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD), making it possible for us to provide all our offers free of charge for participants.
