Karl Friedrich Fürst von Hohenzollern has awarded the ‚Prinz von Hohenzollern Innovationspreis’ (Hohenzollern Innovation Prize) for the 7th time this year.

The great news is that for the second time, a start-up from the Rhine-Neckar region has been able to win the price: The interdisciplinary team of contagt GmbH i.G. received the award in Heidelberg on June, 13th. The company consists of the two managing directors Johannes Britsch (Business Administration) and Stephan Brandt (Information Systems), another Information system expert, Niklas Bartz, and two designers Natascha Geis and Julian Fordon.

The start-up is centred around developing a unique solution to indoor-navigation with smartphones, which is the first of its kind worldwide. The technology is based on Quick Response Codes (QR) and Near Field Communication Chips (NFC) technologies. Through an app, users can import codes to detect their current position within a building. Hence, the app offers a solution which may be compared to a 'Google Maps within buildings’, which then navigates users through the building to a desired destination.

contagt is supported by the Economic department of the City of Mannheim (Wirtschaftsförderung der Stadt Mannheim) and the MAFINEX Gründerverbund, an association which supports and advices student start-ups.

The Innovation Prize was rewarded with 5.000 Euros and further non-cash rewards from sponsor partners Schlatter Rechtsanwälte, WSB Steuerberatungsgesellschaft and the magenta advertising agency.
