VC-BW is part of the start-up-project of the government of Baden-Württemberg and Stuttgart Financial, the platform for the finance-community in Baden-Württemberg. The established VC-networks take an active part in the activities of VC-BW. The overall goal of VC-BW is making the activities of the start-up-community in Baden-Württemberg visible to the outside. A pooled representation of networks, competitions and recent start-ups is supposed to make the location more visible and worthwhile for investors and founders from outside Baden-Württemberg.

The annual Venture Capital-Pitch will be held for the 5th time on January 28, 2016 at the L-Bank in Stuttgart. A jury of expert will select the 'Best of Baden-Württemberg' from the areas of IT, High Tech and Life Science. These most promising startups will present their concept in front of investors from all of Germany and the best ideas will be awarded.

This year, the Mannheimer Existenxgründungspreis will be awarded for the 11th time to innovative ventures located in Mannheim.
MEXI awards the most successful startups of the past 3 years in two different categories: Technology and Creativity. Another category
(Services) might follow in the coming days (check the MEXI-Website for details).

The prize money of 10.000 € for each category is sponsored by different companies:

1. Technology is sponsored by Roche Diagnostics GmbH)
2. Creativity is sponsored trio-group communication and marketing GmbH
3. Service (sponsor will be announced)

However, each company may only apply for one category! Furthermore, the winners will receive a sculpture designed by Michael Grunert, Grunert Medien & Kommunikation GmbH.

You offer products in the IT and communications, medical technology, bio-technology, music or creative economy are socially or culturally active in (or close to Mannheim)? You have taken a calculated risk when founding your company? You want to be an exemplary and inspiration to other people thinking about taking such a risk? Apply now! OPAL, the EXIST funded startup based in the MAFINEX in Mannheim has made the second place at the statewide competition 'Evelator Pitch BW!'.

For the last 9 months more than 180 young companies have participated in 18 regional cups to reach the finals in Stuttgart last weekend.Each startup had only 3 minutes to convince the jury and the audience of their idea. Among the 18 finalists presenting in Stuttgart was alsothe Mannheim based startup OPAL which we introduced as our startup of the month in january.

OPAL's FFDF provides predictive analytics in real-time for fresh food management in the retail industry. Shelves can be optimally equipped and waste
s reduced significantly, at the end of the day. The information can be aggregated in real-time and provided to every group of management.

Winning the second price provides OPAL with a prize money of 2.000€ to support their operations, a lot of media coverage around the event and a lot of new connections to other entrepreneurs, supporters and partners.

Achieving the second place at this well-respected competition shows that the region around Mannheim, the EXIST program and the network and support established by local inititatives as the MCEI and the Entrepreneurship Club have the potential to create a positive environment for innovation and entrepreneurship.

CyberOne 2015 - Apply now!

The CyberOne Hightech Award Baden-Württemberg 2015 is again looking for technology-oriented start-ups and growing companies with innovative business concepts.

For the 17th time Baden-Württemberg: Connected e.V. calls for proposals for the CyberOne Hightech Award, the central business plan competition for innovative business concepts in Baden-Württemberg.

Applicants can sign up and submit their business plans until May 4, 2015.

The CyberOne seeks for entrepreneurs, start-ups and growing companies to present and validate their business concepts and provides a platform to get access to potential investors and business partners. CyberOne Award has two categories:

1. Start-ups or spin-offs from research institutions not older than three years and maximum revenue of € 1 million.
2. Mid-sized growth companies pursuing high-risk business field diversification (e.g. product diversification, internationalization, spin-offs).

Prerequisite for participation ist that the international company has the intention to establish a subsidiary in Baden-Württemberg.

The International Business Model Competition represents a radical departure from the past and the crest of a new paradigm in entrepreneurship. The IBMC is not a business plan competition. The IBMC requires a focus on testing assumptions in the field rather than the typical approach of gathering secondary data, developing validated learning rather than writing a business plan, getting outside the building rather than researching inside the building, applying lean development rather than relying on product development, and “reinventing” or changing course rather than executing on the plan. This competition rewards teams based upon the process of validation and adaptation rather than the merits of the company alone.

The Hult Prize Foundation is a start-up accelerator for budding young social entrepreneurs emerging from the world’s universities. Once a year, they organize a global competition for student teams to create start-ups aimed at solving an issue faced by billions in need.The challenge for this year is to build sustainable and scalable social enterprises to address the early childhood (age 0-6) education gap in urban slums.

The competition will feature two rounds. All teams that make it through the regional finals will be awarded a one-year membership in the Clinton Global Initiative and an opportunity to spend the summer at the Hult Prize Accelerator. The best team at the global finals will win the Hult Prize, which features US$1,000,000 in start-up funding that will be awarded by Mohammad Yunus and President Clinton.

For the first time, the trophy money of 10.000 € will be award in 3 categories: technology orientation (awarded by Roche Diagnostics GmbH), creative economy (awarded by Haas New Media Gmbh) and service economy (awarded by Lieblang Service Gmbh). However, each company may only apply for one category! Furthermore, the winners will receive a sculpture designed by students of the Institut für Gestaltung (Hochschule Mannheim).

"Junge Innovatoren" is a program created by the Ministry of Science Baden-Württemberg, which is meant to support alumni and research associates who are planning to found a new venture.
